Casey Hiatt and Kirk Lenington from Midpeninsula Open Space discuss how their organization works to preserve nature, while also encouraging local involvement with natural spaces. They work to fulfill the needs of both the community and the plants and animals native to the area.

The Midpeninsula Open Space District preserves nature within the Silicon Valley. It is a Global Biodiversity Hotspot, which means it has lost 70% of its local habitat, and the Midpen Open Space District is working to protect and preserve nature in the area.  
How do we preserve nature as the population density in Silicon Valley increases? The Midpeninsula Open Space District engages local communities in discussions to answer this question, so as to develop community driven goals that guide their preservation efforts.
The Story Map is an online interactive map that shows the top twenty-five projects that the Midpeninsula Open Space District is currently working on. With maps and pictures the public can be in ongoing dialog on all future plans for the precious Open Spaces of Silicon Valley.
