Episode #5
Health and Healthcare
Dan Desmond and Kevin Montgomery discuss health and healthcare in the fifth episode of Just Picture It. Using visual tools such as maps and images containing condensed medical data, they have bridged the gap of communication between different sectors of healthcare workers, from the police responding to 911 calls to doctors and nurses. Collaboration between these groups creates a better, more unified picture of the patient’s current state of health.
Entire episode
Divided into 3 shorter segments
Dan Desmond demonstrates how a lack of communication between groups involved in healthcare (doctors, nurses, first responders) can make properly treating a patient difficult. By uniting the information, a better picture of the patient can be developed.
Kevin Montgomery shows how maps can help keep track of patients and their  hospital visits. Also, improvements in technology have created a device that transmits and interprets medical data, helping bridge the gap between groups like doctors and EMTs.
Starting with a smaller area like San Diego allows to test this new approach to health and healthcare before applying it to the larger scale. Desmond and Montgomery’s work focuses on the individual and their health, taking a bottom up approach.
